Itinerary
- Day 1 Arrival in Normandy: Britain Alone and the Road to D-Day
Arrival in Paris and transfer to Caen. We devote the afternoon to what made the landings possible: the Blitz over London, British civilian resistance, and the years when Britain held out alone against the Third Reich, through to the Allied planning prepared in southern England. A welcome dinner sets us in the map of a Europe on the brink of the abyss.
- Day 2 The Normandy Beaches: D-Day
We will make our way to the landing beaches, including Omaha Beach and the American cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. We will feel the scale of the operation that marked the beginning of the end of the Third Reich.
- Day 3 The Bocage: The Battle for Normandy
We will explore the bocage, the difficult terrain of hedgerows and fields that turned the Normandy campaign into a bloody war of attrition. We will visit Sainte-Mère-Église, one of the first villages liberated by American paratroopers.
- Day 4 Paris Liberated and the Resistance
Travel to Paris. We will walk through the key sites of the Liberation of Paris in August 1944. An expert will speak to us about life under occupation and the crucial role of the French Resistance, with all its light and shadow.
- Day 5 Krakow and the Ghetto
Flight to Krakow, Poland. We will take a walking tour through the old Jewish quarter of Kazimierz and the site of the Krakow Ghetto, exploring the rich culture that was destroyed. We will visit Oskar Schindler's factory, reflecting on acts of resistance and rescue.
- Day 6 Auschwitz-Birkenau: The Abyss of the Holocaust
A day devoted to a solemn, guided visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp. A day of silence, memory, and deep reflection on the industrialization of murder.
- Day 7 Berlin: The Fall of the Third Reich
Flight to Berlin. We will visit the places that marked the final days of the Nazi regime: the site of Hitler's bunker, the Reichstag, and the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. We will analyze the final battle for the city.
- Day 8 Nuremberg: The Justice of the Victors
Travel to Nuremberg. We will visit the Zeppelin Field, where the Nazi party rallies were held, and then Courtroom 600 of the Palace of Justice, where the Nuremberg Trials were held against the leading Nazi figures.
- Day 9 The Legacy of the Trials
A seminar at the Nuremberg Trials Memorial on the birth of international criminal law and concepts such as "crimes against humanity." We will discuss the subsequent trials and the long road of international justice.
- Day 10 Reconstruction and "Never Again"
A final reflection on the rebuilding of a devastated Europe and the creation of new alliances to prevent future conflicts. Farewell lunch in Nuremberg and transfer to the airport.
